Deadly World Mod — Guide
Traps and Hazards
The core of the mod consists of various traps that generate naturally in the world. These traps are often hidden behind blocks or integrated into the cave walls.
Trap Types
| Trap Type | Description | Common Triggers |
|---|---|---|
| Arrow Trap | A hidden dispenser loaded with arrows. Fires a volley when triggered. | Wall or Floor Pressure Plates |
| Potion Trap | Fires splash potions of negative effects (Poison, Slowness, Harming, or Weakness). | Wall or Floor Pressure Plates |
| Landmine | An explosive block (TNT) hidden beneath a pressure plate. | Floor Pressure Plates |
| Fire Trap | Ignites the player or the surrounding area using hidden fire sources or flint-and-steel mechanisms. | Proximity or Plates |
| Lava Trap | Pockets of lava hidden behind single layers of stone that spill out when a block is broken or a piston is retracted. | Block Updates |
| Spawner Trap | Disguised spawners that activate when a player enters a specific radius, often spawning swarms of mobs. | Proximity |
| Falling Block Trap | Structures of sand or gravel held up by torches or signs that collapse when a support block is disturbed. | Block Updates |
| Chest Trap | Naturally generating chests that are rigged with explosives or poison dispensers. | Opening the Chest |
| Water Trap | Sudden flooding mechanisms designed to drown players in tight corridors. | Pressure Plates |
World Generation
Deadly World features are injected into the world during the decoration phase of chunk generation.
- Density: The number of traps per chunk can be adjusted. By default, caves will feel significantly more dangerous than vanilla, with a trap appearing roughly every 50-100 blocks of cave length.
- Vertical Distribution: Traps generate at all Y-levels where air pockets (caves) exist. In 1.20.1, this includes the Deepslate layers, where traps may use reinforced materials.
- Biome Specifics: While most traps are universal, certain hazards like Lava Traps are more frequent in hotter biomes or near the bottom of the world.
Mechanics and Logic
Detection
Traps can be detected by observant players. Look for: * Wall Pressure Plates: Small protrusions on cave walls that match the stone texture. * Dispensers: Small circular holes in the wall (often hidden behind a 'false' block that the mod removes when the trap is triggered). * Redstone Dust: Occasionally, redstone trails may be visible if a trap is partially exposed by a ravine or cave intersection.
Disarming
Traps can be disarmed by breaking the trigger (pressure plate) or the payload (dispenser/TNT). Using a bucket of water can often clear out floor-based pressure plates and torches holding up falling block traps safely from a distance.
