How to Process Thorium into Nuclear Fuel

From Ore to Fuel

Thorium Ore is the starting point for reactor fuel. Mine it like any other ore, then process it through the mod's chain to reach Nuclear Fuel. The intermediate step is Thorium, and there is also a Radioactive Thorium form you will encounter during processing.

Processing Chain

1. Mine Thorium Ore and smelt or crush it into Thorium using your usual Create processing (crushing wheels, fans, etc.).

2. Convert Thorium into Radioactive Thorium through the mod's enrichment process. This step requires electrical power, so have your generator running.

3. Combine or further process Radioactive Thorium into Nuclear Fuel. The exact recipe involves the mod's crafting or processing blocks — check JEI/REI for the current recipe, as it may involve Incomplete Fuel as an intermediate that you finish in a machine.

Handling Radioactive Materials

Radioactive Thorium and Nuclear Fuel are hazardous. Store them in a dedicated area away from your main base, ideally behind Reactor Casing or a similar barrier. Do not carry large stacks in your inventory for long periods. When you are ready, feed Nuclear Fuel into a Reactor Fuel Acceptor to start the reactor.

Keep a chest of spare fuel near the reactor so refueling is quick and you are not walking through your base with radioactive items.
