Mine Cells — Guide

The dimensions

There are four, and they are meant to be taken in order:

• The Prison - the first one, and the darkest. A warren of cells and narrow corridors, lit only by coloured torches set into the walls. Fog sits close, so corners hide what is around them.
• The Promenade of the Damned - an open expanse of tall dark pillars under a pale sky, hung with chains and hanging cages. It is the most vertical of the four.
• The Ramparts - walls and walkways, fought across rather than through.
• The Black Bridge - the end of the chain, and where the run finishes.

Each has its own building set - stone, wood, decoration - and all of it can be carried home and used in an ordinary base.

Doorway portals

Travel happens through doorway portals. Activating one opens a selection screen listing the dimensions, with the ones you have not unlocked yet shown locked along with what they need - usually a rune, or a visit to the dimension before.

The screen also decides who the portal is for. A portal can be opened for everyone on the server or for yourself alone, and closed again from the same screen, so a shared base can keep one doorway without everybody being dragged along on the same run.

What lives in them

The roster is drawn from the source game, and each one asks for a different answer:

• Leaping Zombies close the distance in a single bound, so backing away does not buy time.
• Shieldbearers block from the front. They have to be worked around rather than traded with.
• Grenadiers lob explosives from range and are best not given the space to do it.
• Disgusting Worms and the rest of the smaller enemies fill out the rooms between.

At the far end of a run sit the bosses, Conjunctivius among them, each holding its own arena. Everything drops cells, and the bigger the thing the more it drops.

Building with it

Not everything here is combat. Ribbon flags come in all sixteen dye colours and hang along a wall on a rail, and they wave, which makes them useful for marking a base entrance or a row of rooms at a glance.

The stone, wood and decoration sets from each dimension work as ordinary building blocks once brought home, so the palette a run gives you is a real reward on its own.
