Accessing Config Files

If you prefer manual configuration over the web editor, you can edit permission files directly.

1. Navigate to your server folder

2. Find the Luck Perms config directory (usually in a dedicated folder)

3. Locate the files for groups and users

4. Open them in a text editor

File Structure Basics

Config files store ranks, players, and their permissions in a structured format. Each entry lists:

  • The rank or player name
  • Associated permissions
  • Parent ranks (for inheritance)
  • Other metadata

Permissions are typically listed as text strings representing actions or commands.

Editing and Saving

1. Make your changes carefully—syntax errors can break permissions

2. Save the file

3. Reload or restart your server for changes to take effect

When to Use Config Files

Direct file editing is useful for:

  • Bulk importing permissions from another server
  • Backing up your permission setup
  • Making changes when the web editor is unavailable
  • Version control or scripting automation

For most daily tasks, the web editor is faster and safer.
