Sorting a Single Container

Mouse Wheelie lets you sort the contents of any container you have open, including your own player inventory. Open the container (a chest, barrel, shulker box, or your inventory screen), then use the mod's sort key or the sort button that appears in the container's interface. The mod rearranges the items in that container into a tidy order — typically grouping identical items together and ordering them by type — so stacks of the same item merge and empty slots collect at the end.

Sorting Across Containers

One of the more useful behaviors is sorting while multiple inventories are visible at once, such as a chest plus your player inventory. Sorting applies to the container you target, so you can clean up the chest without disturbing your carried items, or vice versa. If you want to move everything into a matching layout, sort the chest first, then sort your inventory.

Practical Tips

  • Sorting merges partial stacks of the same item, freeing up slots.
  • Keep a consistent sort habit so you always know where a category of item lives.
  • If a container looks unsorted after you press the key, make sure the mouse is hovering the correct inventory panel, since the mod sorts the panel under your cursor.
  • Sorting is a client-side convenience; the resulting arrangement is what gets saved to the container.
