Frequently asked questions

How do I craft a lasso?
Each lasso type has its own recipe, which you can find in the crafting menu or by looking up the specific lasso you need (golden, aquatic, diamond, emerald, or hostile). Once crafted, you use the lasso on a mob to capture it into the item.
Why did my mob escape from the lasso?
Most lassos have a timer, and mobs will break free after some time passes. The diamond lasso is the only one without a timer, so use that if you need permanent capture.
Can I capture any mob with one lasso?
No—each lasso is specialized: golden for land animals, aquatic for water animals, diamond for all animals, emerald for villagers only, and hostile for hostile mobs. Use the right lasso for the mob you want.
How do I capture a villager?
Use an emerald lasso, but the villager must first accept a contract with you—not all villagers will agree. If they refuse, you cannot capture them with that lasso.
How do I capture hostile mobs safely?
Use a hostile lasso, but the mob must be below 50% health first. Be warned: the mob will continuously bite you while you're carrying the lasso, so prepare for damage.
Can I rename a captured mob?
Yes—take the lasso containing the mob to an anvil and apply a new name to it, just like renaming any other item. The mob will keep that name when released.
How do I make lassos last longer?
Enchant your lasso with the Holding enchantment at an enchanting table to extend the capture duration before the mob escapes.
What happens when I release a mob from a lasso?
The mob will spawn where you are and behave normally. If you renamed it in an anvil, it will keep that custom name.
Do I need leads or food to use lassos?
No—lassos work without leads or animal food, making them a simpler way to transport mobs compared to traditional methods.
Can I store multiple mobs in my inventory at once?
Yes, as long as you have multiple lassos, each one can hold a different mob and take up a separate inventory slot.
