Where do I find a Companion Charm to get started?
Desert pyramid chests contain Companion Charms as loot, or you can grab one from the creative menu if you prefer. Once you have one, use it to summon your first companion into the world.
How do I make my companion stop following me?
Press K to open the companion action menu and select the "Stay" command, or use the Command Menu to tell them to wander freely within a set radius. They'll remain in that area until you call them back.
Can my companion die permanently?
No—companions don't permanently despawn or die. If they take damage in combat, they'll recover, and they stay loaded near you at all times so you won't lose them when traveling.
My companion won't stop attacking mobs I don't want them to fight. How do I fix this?
Use the behavior settings menu (accessible through Hold Shift + right-click with the charm) to adjust their aggression or combat radius, or command them to "Stay" in a safe location while you handle threats yourself.
Do companions work in the Nether and End?
Yes—companions follow you across all dimensions without getting left behind, so they're useful for dangerous expeditions anywhere in your world.
How do I change my companion's appearance?
Hold Shift and right-click with the Companion Charm to open customization settings, where you can adjust their body form, outfit, size, and animal or mob style to match your preference.
Can I have multiple companions at once?
Yes—you can summon and manage multiple companions, and you can even raise companion children that stay with your family group using the mod's breeding and family mechanics.
What happens if I want my companion to talk back to me?
Use the /az ai config command to set up a language model connection (local or online), then use /ask <message> to chat with your companion and they'll respond based on their persona settings.
Does my companion carry items for me?
Yes—companions have dedicated personal inventory slots where they can hold extra gear and tools, effectively giving you more storage space during exploration.
Will my companion protect me at night?
Companions will sleep beside you in beds through the night and fight hostile mobs that approach, plus certain forms like cats scare away Creepers and wolves frighten Skeletons nearby.
