FPS Reducer is not a frame rate booster — it is a power and heat reducer. If your laptop sounds like a jet engine while Minecraft is open, this mod is aimed at you.

Understand where the heat comes from

Minecraft renders continuously even when nothing is happening. Standing still in a menu, reading a book, or leaving the game open while you eat all keep the GPU busy. FPS Reducer cuts that wasted work by lowering the frame rate when you are not actively playing.

Set it up for a laptop

Enable both triggers. Set the idle delay to a moderate value — long enough that normal pauses do not trip it, short enough that it engages when you actually walk away. Set the reduced frame rate low for the unfocused case, since you cannot see the window anyway.

Combine it with the game's own frame cap

FPS Reducer works alongside Minecraft's built-in frame rate limit. Cap your normal frame rate at something your laptop can sustain comfortably, then let FPS Reducer handle the idle and unfocused cases. This keeps the machine from ramping up its fans during moments when high frame rates buy you nothing.

What to expect

You will not see a higher frame rate while playing. What you should see is lower fan noise, a cooler chassis, and longer battery life when the game is open but unattended. If the fans still spin up while you are idle in-game, the idle trigger is not engaging — check that it is enabled and that the delay is not set longer than your typical pause.
