The most common complaint about FPS Reducer is that it makes the game feel sluggish or unresponsive. That is usually a configuration problem, not a bug — the mod is throttling at the wrong moment.
Identify which trigger is firing
There are two ways the mod reduces frame rate: the window is not focused, or the player has been idle. If the game feels bad while you are actively playing, the idle trigger is firing too early. If it feels bad only after alt-tabbing back, the unfocused trigger is the culprit and the game is slow to ramp back up.
Fix the idle trigger
Increase the idle delay. The mod should only throttle after a period of genuinely no input — no mouse movement, no key presses. If you play with a controller, or if you use mods that move the
camera for you, the mod may not see your input as activity. In that case, either raise the delay substantially or disable the idle trigger entirely and keep only the unfocused behaviour.
Fix the unfocused trigger
When you return to the window, the frame rate should recover immediately. If there is a noticeable stutter on return, the reduced rate is set too low, or the mod is waiting for a frame that takes too long to produce. Raise the reduced frame rate so the transition back to full speed is smoother.
When to just turn it off
If you play on a laptop where the game is always focused, the idle trigger is the only one that matters. If it still interferes, disable it and rely on the unfocused trigger alone — you will still save power when you tab away.
