Layout principles
Because the bonus depends on sky
exposure, the best farm is one with zero overhead obstruction. Flat, open fields outperform compact indoor setups whenever rain is frequent. Group crops by type so you can compare growth and replant efficiently.
Practical build steps
1. Choose a biome where rain occurs regularly; dry or snow-only biomes will rarely trigger the effect.
2. Lay out rows with standard spacing so you can walk between them without placing blocks overhead.
3. Use fences or low walls at the edges — they do not block sky access above the crops themselves.
4. Avoid tall crops or trees adjacent to the field if their canopy overhangs the farmland.
5. Keep lighting minimal or use ground-level light sources that do not sit above the plants.
Maintenance
After each harvest, re-check for accidental cover: scaffolding, vines, or floating
blocks from other builds. A single misplaced block above one column of crops disables the bonus for that column only, which can make the effect look inconsistent. If you expand the farm, extend it outward rather than building upward, so every new crop keeps open sky.
