Frequently asked questions

Do I need to start a new world to see terrain slabs?
Yes, terrain slabs only generate as part of new chunk creation, so you'll need to explore new terrain or start a fresh world to see them. Existing chunks won't retroactively gain slabs.
Why do my grass slabs look brown or wrong colored?
This is usually caused by Quark's Greener Grass feature conflicting with the mod. Disable the Greener Grass option in your Quark config to fix the grass slab colors.
Can I turn off slab generation for specific blocks?
Yes, you can configure which blocks generate slabs through the mod's MidnightLib config menu. You can toggle generation entirely or customize it per material.
Do gravity-affected slabs like sand and gravel fall like normal blocks?
Yes, sand slabs, gravel slabs, and other gravity-affected variants behave identically to their full-block counterparts and will fall when unsupported.
What happens when I break a terrain slab?
Breaking a slab drops the original full block (dirt, grass, sand, etc.), so you won't get a separate slab item cluttering your inventory.
Why do slabs look like brown cubes in Distant Horizons?
Distant Horizons doesn't natively recognize the mod's slabs, but the mod includes a resource pack that provides partial visual fixes for this issue.
Can I use the fancy grass resource pack with other resource packs?
Yes, the included fancy grass resource pack can be layered with other packs in your resource pack list, though load order may affect how they interact.
Do terrain slabs appear in caves and underground?
Yes, slabs generate both on the surface and throughout cave systems, helping smooth terrain transitions underground as well.
Will this mod cause performance issues?
Terrain slabs are part of standard world generation and shouldn't significantly impact performance, though you can disable generation entirely if needed through the config.
What blocks can generate as slabs?
The mod supports common terrain blocks like dirt, grass, mycelium, and moss, plus gravel, sand, clay, and deepslate variants.
