Craft the chisel from a stick and an iron ingot in a diagonal arrangement, then right-click any chiselable block with it to open the chisel menu. The chisel is your main tool for converting one block into any of its available variants.

The chisel GUI remembers the last variant you selected, so the next block you chisel may default to that instead of the base form. Click the variant you actually want in the GUI before chiseling, or use the Chisel Table to set it explicitly.

Right-click the chiseled block with the chisel and select the original/base variant from the GUI, or chisel it back to the unmodified block. Most variants can be reverted this way without losing the block.

Chisel Modern supports many vanilla blocks and a selection of common modded blocks, but not every block from every mod is chiselable. If a block isn't recognized, it simply won't open the chisel GUI — check the mod's block list for supported materials.

Chisel variants are normal blocks, so performance depends on how many you place, not the mod itself. Antiblock and other transparent variants can be slightly heavier to render in large quantities, so use them sparingly in high-traffic areas.
