IC2 Classic Mod — Guide

Power Generation

To run your factory, you must generate EU. There are several methods ranging from simple to highly complex.

Basic Generators

  • Generator: Burns solid fuel (Coal, Wood) to produce 10 EU/t.
  • Geothermal Generator: Consumes Lava buckets or cells to produce 20 EU/t.
  • Solar Panel: Produces 1 EU/t during the day. IC2 Classic includes 'Compact Solars' (LV, MV, HV Solar Arrays) to save space.
  • Wind Mill: Produces EU based on height and surrounding air space. Be careful: high winds can break them if not reinforced.
  • Water Mill: Produces small amounts of EU when surrounded by water or fed water buckets.

Advanced Generation

  • Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generator (RTG): Uses Pellets of RTG Fuel to provide constant, low-output power forever without consuming the fuel.
  • Nuclear Reactor: The ultimate power source. It uses Uranium fuel rods and requires complex cooling systems (Heat Vents, Coolant Cells) to prevent a catastrophic meltdown.

Agriculture and Crops

IC2 Classic features a deep farming system that allows players to breed custom plants.

  • Crop Sticks: Placing these on tilled soil allows you to plant IC2 crops. Placing two sets of sticks next to each other allows for cross-breeding.
  • Stats: Crops have Growth, Gain, and Resistance stats. High stats make plants grow faster and drop more, but can also cause them to turn into 'Weeds' if not managed.
  • Unique Plants: You can grow Coffee, Hops (for brewing), Ferru (Iron-producing plants), and even Redstone or Gold plants through careful breeding.
  • Crop Nalyser: A handheld device used to identify the stats and species of seeds.

Nuclear Engineering

The Nuclear Reactor is a 3x3x3 multiblock (expandable with Reactor Chambers).

Reactor Components

  • Uranium Fuel Rods: Single, Dual, or Quadruple. More rods produce exponentially more heat and power.
  • Heat Vents: Dissipate heat from the reactor into the environment or internal storage.
  • Heat Exchangers: Move heat between adjacent components or the reactor hull.
  • Coolant Cells: Absorb heat to prevent the reactor from melting down.

Safety Warning: If the reactor hull reaches 100% heat, it will explode with a force greater than several dozen TNT blocks, leaving a crater and permanent radiation in the area. Always use a Thermal Monitor or Redstone failsafe.

1.19.2 Specific Changes

In the 1.19.2 version of IC2 Classic, several quality-of-life changes were introduced:

  • In-Game Wiki: A physical book item is available that contains real-time updated information on all blocks and items.
  • DataPack Support: Recipes and machine behaviors can now be modified via standard Minecraft DataPacks.
  • ResourcePacks: The texture system was overhauled to allow for easier customization of machine overlays and cable states.
  • Integration: Improved compatibility with modern mods and the removal of legacy 'Experimental' code paths that caused crashes in older versions.
