Leaves still take a while to disappear. Check the decay delay setting - increase the speed (lower the delay) if you want faster cleanup. Also note decay spreads outward, so very large canopies clear in a quick cascade rather than all at once.

I'm not getting saplings/apples anymore. Make sure drop items on decay is enabled in the config.

Does it work in multiplayer? Yes - the faster decay applies in the world for everyone.

Is it compatible with modded trees? Generally yes, since it hooks the standard leaf-decay behavior; trees that use entirely custom leaf blocks may behave differently.
