Break the Base Block

Once the mod is installed, felling a tree works almost exactly like vanilla mining — with one key difference. Walk up to the trunk of a tree and break the lowest log block (the one sitting directly on the ground or on a dirt/grass block). As soon as that block is destroyed, the mod detects the connected log column above it and begins collapsing the rest of the trunk automatically. You do not need to press any extra key or open a menu.

What Happens During the Collapse

After the base log breaks, the remaining logs in the vertical stack are removed in sequence, and the leaf blocks attached to the canopy are cleared as well. Drops (logs, saplings, sticks, and apples where applicable) fall to the ground or go straight into your inventory depending on your configuration. The whole process takes only a moment, so stand still and let the animation finish before walking into the stump area — otherwise you may miss items that spawn where the trunk used to be.

When It Will Not Trigger

If the tree does not collapse, check that you actually broke the bottom-most log and not a middle segment. Trees that are partially buried, floating, or built from player-placed logs may not register as natural trees depending on your settings. Very large custom trees (jungle giants, modded mega-trees) may only partially collapse if the trunk branches horizontally.
