Finding Squirrels

Squirrels spawn in forest biomes, often near trees. They are small, brown, and bushy-tailed. You can spot them hopping around on the ground or climbing trunks. They are passive mobs and will flee if you approach too quickly.

Taming and Feeding

To tame a Squirrel, hold a Walnut or Maple Cookie in your hand and right-click it. Repeat until hearts appear. Once tamed, it will follow you and can be ordered to sit. Tamed Squirrels can be bred with Walnuts. Feed two tamed squirrels a Walnut each, and a baby squirrel will spawn. You can also use a Lead to guide them. Squirrels may dig up Walnuts or other items from the ground — check nearby dirt blocks occasionally. They are a charming companion for forest bases.

Practical Uses

Squirrels are mostly decorative pets, but they add life to builds. Keep them in a fenced area with trees and grass. They can climb walls if blocks are adjacent, so use solid fences. Avoid letting them near cliffs, as they can fall.
