The Dragon Radar is your core tool for locating dragons across huge distances. Before you can start hunting, you need to craft it and understand how its compass-style needle behaves.
Crafting the Radar
Gather the ingredients shown in the mod's recipe viewer (JEI/REI) — the recipe uses a compass-style layout with mod-specific components. Once crafted, hold the Dragon Radar in your main hand. It will begin to spin clockwise when idle, which simply means it is scanning and not yet locked onto a target.
Reading the Needle
When a dragon is within range, the needle stops spinning and points toward it. If the needle spins counter-clockwise instead, you are aligned with the dragon on the X and Z axes but not on Y — meaning the dragon is directly above or below you. Fly up or dig down to correct your altitude, and the needle will settle into a normal pointing direction.
First Scan Tips
- Stand still while scanning so the needle stabilizes.
- If nothing is detected, you may simply be out of range — move to a new area and scan again.
- Dead dragons (HP at zero) are ignored, but glitched ones may still register until you harvest their bones.
