How to Track a Dragon to Its Exact Location Using the Radar
Once the radar locks onto a dragon, the real work is following the needle without losing the signal. Here is a reliable method for closing the distance.
Following the Needle
Hold the radar and walk in the direction the needle points. Keep the needle pointing straight ahead of you — if it drifts to one side, rotate your body until it points forward again. This is the same technique as a vanilla compass, just with a live target.
Handling the Counter-Clockwise Spin
If the needle suddenly spins counter-clockwise, stop moving horizontally. You are on the dragon's X/Z column but at the wrong height. Check whether the dragon is above or below you (fly up if you suspect a sky dragon, dig or descend if it may be underground), then resume normal tracking once the needle points again.
Closing In
- Move in short bursts, re-checking the needle each time.
- As you get closer, the signal becomes more responsive, so slow down to avoid overshooting.
- If the needle starts spinning clockwise again mid-hunt, the dragon may have died, moved out of range, or been filtered out — re-check your filters.
When You Arrive
Expect a fight. Bring appropriate gear, and remember glitched zero-HP dragons may still appear until you harvest their bones.
