How do I know if a village is an overhauled village or just a vanilla one?
Overhauled villages use entirely new building layouts, themed palettes, and decorative props that vanilla villages never generate, so if the houses look unfamiliar and the paths are laid out differently, you've found one. Check the structure style against the biome — each theme has its own look, so a desert village won't resemble a plains one.
Do I need to generate a new world for the villages to appear?
Yes, for the most part — villages are placed during world generation, so chunks you've already loaded keep their original villages. You can still find overhauled villages by exploring into ungenerated chunks in an existing world.
Is this mod available for Bedrock Edition?
The mod is built for Java Edition, so it won't run on Bedrock. Bedrock players looking for a similar experience would need a separate Bedrock-specific village addon, since this one can't be ported directly.
Will this mod work with other village or structure mods?
It generally plays fine alongside biome and structure mods, but two mods that both rewrite village generation can conflict and cause broken or overlapping layouts. If villages look wrong, test with only this mod enabled to isolate the culprit.
Why aren't any overhauled villages showing up in my world?
The most common cause is that you're exploring chunks that were already generated before the mod was added, since those keep their old terrain. Travel further out into fresh chunks, and make sure the mod is actually loaded in your mod list.
Can I use an overhauled village as my main base?
Yes — the larger layouts and extra buildings make them great bases, and you can claim a house, set up storage, and use villagers as a steady trade and resource source. Just be careful not to break too many of their structures, since that can hurt your reputation with them.
How do I trade with the villagers in these villages?
Trading works the same as vanilla — find a villager with a profession and open the trade menu. Overhauled villages often have more workstations spread around, so you can
level up several villagers at once for better deals.
level up several villagers at once for better deals. Will looting chests in an overhauled village make the villagers attack me?
Taking from village chests can lower your reputation and eventually turn the villagers hostile, just like vanilla. If you want to stay on good terms, trade with them instead of raiding, or loot only from structures that don't belong to the village.
Does this mod hurt performance or cause lag?
The mod mainly adds structures, so the impact is usually small, but very large villages with lots of entities can cause lag on lower-end machines. If you notice stuttering near a village, reducing your render distance or entity settings helps.
Do the villages change depending on the biome they spawn in?
Yes — the mod uses thematic variations, so a village in a jungle, desert, or snowy biome will have a different style, palette, and set of buildings. This means exploring different biomes rewards you with distinct village designs and loot.
What does ChoiceTheorem's Overhauled Village add?
Redesigned, larger villages for every biome, plus overhauled pillager outposts. Each village-type guide covers a biome group and its variants.
What village variants are there?
Variants for plains, desert (including oasis), forest and jungle, mountain and badlands, and snowy and taiga biomes, each covered in its own guide.
How do you find the overhauled villages?
They replace and expand vanilla village generation across biomes, so explore each biome to find its village type, as covered in the village guides.
