How to Get and Use the Ancient Spear

The Ancient Spear is a signature Cataclysm weapon with a thrown attack. It is not a simple sword replacement — it rewards timing.

Obtaining It

Ancient Spear components come from Ancient Remnant and Ancient Desert Stele content, and from Ancient Metal Ingots. You will need to explore desert-themed Cataclysm structures and defeat Ancient Remnants to gather the materials. Ancient Metal Nuggets and Ingots are the core crafting inputs.

Using the Spear

Melee attacks with the Ancient Spear deal solid damage, but the real value is the thrown attack. Charge and release to hurl the spear; it pierces and hits hard at range. After throwing, retrieve the spear or it stays where it lands. This makes it excellent for opening fights against Draugr, Aptrgangr, and other slow melee mobs.

Tips

Pair the spear with a shield in your offhand for a hybrid playstyle. Do not spam throws against fast enemies like Kobolediator — they will close the gap while your weapon is airborne. Against bosses, use throws during their recovery animations and switch to melee when they are stunned.
