Upgrades

Barrels can be enhanced using various upgrades. Tier upgrades must be applied in order (Iron > Gold > Diamond), while functional upgrades can be added at any time.

Tier Upgrades

These upgrades increase the total item capacity of a barrel.

Functional Upgrades

• Blank Barrel Upgrade: The base component for all other upgrades.
• Obsidian Shell: Makes the barrel completely blast-resistant.
• Redstone Output: Allows the barrel to emit a redstone signal. Players can configure the signal to trigger based on specific thresholds (e.g., signal ON if count > 1000).
• Hopper Upgrade: Allows the barrel to automatically pull from or push to adjacent inventories.
• Void Upgrade: Automatically deletes any incoming items if the barrel is already at maximum capacity.
• Collect Pickups: Acts as a vacuum, pulling nearby dropped items of the stored type directly into the barrel.
• Item Smelting: A rare upgrade that automatically smelts items as they enter the barrel (if a valid recipe exists).

Mechanics

Interaction

• Right-click: Insert the item held in your hand.
• Double Right-click: Insert all matching items from your entire inventory.
• Left-click: Extract one full stack of items.
• Sneak + Left-click: Extract exactly one item.
• Right-click with Empty Hand: Opens the barrel's configuration GUI (if upgrades like Redstone are installed).

Locking

Barrels can be "locked" to a specific item type. When locked, the barrel will display the item icon even when empty and will refuse to accept any other item type. This is crucial for automated sorting systems to prevent items from ending up in the wrong slots.

Automation & Networking

The Item Barrel Connector is the primary tool for large-scale automation. * Range: It scans for any barrels physically touching it or connected via Barrel Trims. * AE2 Integration: Attach an ME Storage Bus to the Connector to make your entire barrel wall accessible through your ME Terminal.
