SteamCraft 2 Mod — Reference
Ores and Materials
SteamCraft 2 adds several new ores to the world generation, which are essential for progressing through the mod's technological tiers.
Natural Ores
| Ore | Spawn Height | Primary Use |
|---|---|---|
| Copper Ore | 40-75 | Wiring, Brass/Bronze alloys, basic components. |
| Tin Ore | 20-55 | Bronze alloy, canisters, and gears. |
| Zinc Ore | 10-40 | Brass alloy and decorative blocks. |
| Aluminum Ore | 30-60 | Lightweight components and advanced modules. |
| Brimstone (Sulfur) | 5-20 | Gunpowder production and chemical processes. |
| Phosphate Ore | 10-30 | Fertilizers and chemical recipes. |
| Uranium Ore | 5-15 | High-tier power generation and specialized weaponry. |
Alloys and Refined Metals
Alloys are created by combining base metals in a Bloomery or Cast Iron Oven.
- Brass: Created by smelting Copper and Zinc (3:1 ratio). The primary material for most SteamCraft machinery and armor.
- Bronze: Created by smelting Copper and Tin (3:1 ratio). Used for durable tools and early-game machines.
- Cast Iron: Produced by refining Iron Ingots. Used for heavy-duty casings and the Cast Iron Oven.
- Gilded Iron: Iron infused with Gold, used for decorative and high-conductivity components.
Machines and Steam Power
The core of the mod revolves around the generation and utilization of Steam. Steam is a fluid that can be transported via pipes and stored in canisters.
Core Machinery
- Boiler: The heart of any steam setup. It consumes water and fuel (coal, wood, etc.) to produce Steam. Higher temperatures increase production efficiency.
- Steam Engine: Converts Steam into rotational energy or RF power. It must be placed adjacent to a steam source or connected via pipes.
- Grinder: A steam-powered machine used to process ores into dusts, often providing a higher yield than standard smelting.
- Bloomery: An early-game furnace used for creating alloys like Brass and Bronze before advanced machinery is available.
- Cast Iron Oven: An upgraded furnace with higher efficiency and the ability to process complex materials.
- Lightning Rod: A massive structure that captures lightning strikes to generate huge bursts of power, which can be stored in Capacitors.
Power Storage
- Steam Canister: A portable item that stores steam to power handheld tools like the Steam Drill.
- Electric Jar: Used to store electrical energy for high-tech gadgets.
- Capacitor: A block-based energy storage unit capable of holding up to 64M RF, though it has a limited transfer rate.
Tools and Weapons
SteamCraft 2 provides a variety of specialized tools that utilize the mod's power systems.
Steam-Powered Tools
These tools require a Steam Canister in the player's inventory to function. * Steam Drill: A powerful mining tool that can dig through stone and ores much faster than a diamond pickaxe. * Steam Chainsaw: An efficient wood-cutting tool that can fell entire trees quickly.
Weaponry
- Rayguns: Advanced ranged weapons that come in three variants:
- Heat Ray: Sets targets on fire and can smelt blocks in the world.
- Cold Ray: Slows enemies and can turn water into ice.
- Electric Ray: Deals high damage and has a chance to strike targets with lightning.
- Musket: A high-damage projectile weapon that uses iron bullets. It has a long reload time but significant stopping power.
- Flintlock Pistol: A smaller, faster-firing alternative to the musket.
- Etherium Tools: High-tier tools made from rare Etherium crystals, offering extreme durability and speed.
Modular Armor System
The Brass Armor set serves as a base for the Modular Armor system. By using an Armor Editor, players can install various modules to grant the armor unique abilities.
Available Modules
| Piece | Module | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Helmet | Goggle Module | Grants Night Vision. |
| Time HUD | Displays the current in-game time on the screen. | |
| Thaumic Monocle | Provides Thaumcraft Goggles of Revealing functionality. | |
| Chestplate | Wingpack | Allows for limited flight/gliding (consumes steam). |
| Aqualung | Allows for extended underwater breathing. | |
| Parachute | Slows falling speed to prevent fall damage. | |
| Reactive Piston | Provides a knockback effect to attackers. | |
| Leggings | Leg Bracing | Increases movement speed and reduces fall damage. |
| Emergency Tank | Automatically refills steam canisters from an internal reserve. | |
| Boots | Piston Boots | Increases jump height significantly. |
| Roller Skates | Increases movement speed on flat ground. | |
| Flippers | Increases swimming speed. | |
| Climbing Spikes | Allows the player to climb vertical walls. |
Utility Blocks
Decorative and Functional Blocks
- Engraved Blocks: Using a Chisel, players can engrave various metal and stone blocks with intricate patterns.
- Sirens: Redstone-powered blocks that emit a loud wailing sound. The volume and pitch can be adjusted based on the strength of the redstone signal.
- Timebomb: A destructive device that can be set to detonate at a specific 24-hour time or after a countdown.
- Stasis Field: A high-tech block that, when powered, prevents items within its radius from despawning. This is ideal for automated collection systems.
