What Is Recurrent Complex

Introduction

While Recurrent Complex does add structures to the world without any editing needed, Recurrent Complex at its core is a modpack development utility which allows users to add their own custom structures to world generation based on various rules. As of writing, it is the most powerful structure generation mod available for Minecraft. Note this wiki only applies to the 1.12 version of Minecraft, as older versions are missing certain features.

Why Learn Recurrent Complex?

If you're a modpack developer on 1.12 trying to add custom structures to your modpack, you should absolutely consider learning how to use Recurrent Complex. While its features can be rather advanced with a steep learning curve, they are worth learning and will make your modpack stand out. Mods like Pillar are nice and lightweight, but they pale in comparison to what Recurrent Complex is capable of. This wiki is written to be as user friendly and easy to understand as possible to encourage more devs to utilize Recurrent Complex for their modpacks.

Capabilities

To give a quick list of what Recurrent Complex is capable of, here are a few things you can do with it beyond adding basic structures:

  • Create mazes with randomized layouts.
  • Create towns with randomized layouts.
  • Create dynamic structures with randomized portions.
  • Create spawn structures.
  • Create single instances of structures with fixed positions.
  • Compatibility for most modded blocks and entities.
  • Structure sizes beyond the 48^3 limit of vanilla structures.
  • Determine when a structure spawns, including conditions for: Biome, dimension, terrain smoothness, distance to similar structures, number of times a structure has spawned, and much more.
