Check the Basics First
If hostile mobs are still spawning after you place a Magnum Torch, work through these checks in order.
1. Confirm the torch is placed. A dropped item or a torch in your inventory does nothing—it must be placed as a block.
2. Check your distance. You may be standing outside the torch's coverage radius. Move closer to the torch and observe whether spawns stop.
3. Look for existing mobs. The torch prevents new spawns but does not despawn mobs already present.
4. Check for spawners. Mob spawners and certain scripted spawns may ignore the torch's suppression. If a spawner is inside your zone, it can still produce mobs.
If Spawns Continue
- Add a second torch to extend coverage over the problem area.
- Make sure nothing is preventing the torch from being recognized—break and replace it if in doubt.
- Remember the torch only affects hostile mobs, so passive animals and villagers will still appear normally.
Once existing mobs are cleared and coverage is confirmed, the area should stay quiet through the night.
