Pick the Right Torch for the Job
All three Magnum Torches—Amethyst, Diamond, and
Emerald—do the same core job: they suppress hostile mob spawning in a large area around them. The difference is cosmetic and material cost, so choose based on what you can craft and how you want it to look. Place the torch where you want the center of your protected zone to be, ideally somewhere central to the area you care about.
Placement Tips
- Put the torch high up or in the middle of your base so its radius covers as much of your build as possible.
- One torch covers a wide area, but very large bases may need more than one. Space them so their coverage overlaps.
- The torch prevents *new* hostile spawns. It does not remove mobs that already exist, so clear out anything inside the radius after placing it.
- Light level does not matter for the torch's effect—it works regardless of how dark the area is, which is why it is popular for mob farms and dark builds.
Verify It Is Working
If no zombies, skeletons, creepers, or
spiders appear, it is working. If mobs still spawn, you are likely outside the coverage—add another torch closer to the problem spot.
