If you installed Chat Heads and chat still looks plain, the mod is probably waiting on a setting or a resource it can't find. This guide gets heads rendering.
Check the basics first
Chat Heads is a client-side mod, so it only affects what *you* see. Other players don't need it installed, and it won't change anything on a server's side. Make sure the mod is actually loaded for your game instance — if you run multiple profiles or launchers, it's easy to install it into the wrong one.
Enable head rendering
Open the mod's configuration screen. Depending on your setup this is usually reachable from the mod list (select Chat Heads, then its config button) or from an in-game config menu if you have a config library installed. Look for the option that toggles head display next to chat and make sure it's on. While you're there, check any setting that controls *where* the head appears relative to the message — some players prefer it inline with the name, others prefer it offset to the side.
If heads still don't appear
Heads are drawn from player skins, which the client has to fetch. On a fresh session, or on servers where skins load slowly, heads may be blank or missing for a moment. Give it a few seconds and send another message. If a specific player's head never loads, that usually means their skin isn't available to your client rather than a problem with the mod.
