Crafting the Turtle

Craft a Turtle using the turtle recipe, which combines a Computer with a chest and the tool material you want. The turtle_overlay and turtle recipe types handle the tool head. Place the Turtle in the world and right-click to open its terminal. A Turtle can move, dig, and place blocks through its built-in commands.

Basic Mining Loop

At the turtle prompt, run turtle.dig() to break the block in front, then turtle.forward() to move into the space. Repeat with a loop: for i = 1, 16 do turtle.dig() turtle.forward() end. Use turtle.digUp() and turtle.digDown() for vertical shafts. turtle.digDown() then turtle.down() carves a staircase downward. Fuel is required for movement and digging; place coal or other fuel in the turtle's inventory slot and call turtle.refuel().

Upgrading to Advanced Turtle

An Advanced Turtle uses the computer_upgrade recipe path and gives you color output and more peripherals. Attach a Wireless Modem to a Turtle to let it receive commands remotely, or a Wired Modem for a fixed cable link. Use turtle.inspect() before digging to check what block is ahead, and turtle.detect() to test for a block without breaking it. Combine detect and dig so the turtle stops at bedrock or lava instead of destroying itself.
