Getting Started with Eggs

Once you have a bird egg in your inventory, you cannot simply throw it on the ground like a vanilla chicken egg. Exotic Birds eggs require a dedicated hatching process. Place the egg into an Egg Incubator or, depending on the species, onto a nest block. The incubator is the most reliable method for rare and mythical birds.

Step-by-Step Hatching

1. Craft or obtain an Egg Incubator.

2. Right-click the incubator with your egg to place it inside.

3. Supply the incubator with a heat source — typically a torch, lava bucket, or campfire placed beneath or adjacent, depending on your version's recipe.

4. A progress indicator will show the egg developing.

5. When ready, the egg will hatch into a baby bird. Baby birds cannot be tamed yet — they must grow into adults first.

Tips

  • Some eggs (like the Mystery Egg) hatch into random species, so results vary.
  • Keep the incubator chunk loaded; unloaded chunks pause incubation.
  • If an egg never hatches, check that the heat source is still valid and the block has not been broken.
  • Mythical eggs such as the Phoenix may require special conditions — often lava or fire nearby — before they will hatch.
