What does the Dynamic Lights Mod do?
It makes light sources like torches, glowstone, and lava illuminate their surroundings as they move, instead of only lighting an area when placed down. Light sources emit light when held, worn, dropped on the ground, or carried by another player.
How do I use Dynamic Lights?
Just hold or wear a supported light source, such as a torch or glowstone, and it will light up the area around you. Dropped light sources and burning entities also emit light.
How do I turn Dynamic Lights on or off?
Press the toggle key, which is L by default, to turn all dynamic lights on or off. You can change the key in the config file.
How do I install Dynamic Lights?
It is available as a data pack and as a mod for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, and Quilt. Since it is server-side, players joining a server that has it installed do not need to install anything themselves.
Does Dynamic Lights work in multiplayer?
Yes, it works in multiplayer by default and is server-side, so it cannot lag servers. However, dropped light sources and your handheld light will not prevent mobs from spawning.
Which Minecraft versions does Dynamic Lights support?
The project page lists support for Minecraft 1.17.x through 26.2.x, including versions 26.2-pre-4 through 26.2. Support for 26.3 is in the works.
Does Dynamic Lights work on Bedrock?
The gathered facts only cover Java Edition loaders (datapack, Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, Quilt) and do not mention Bedrock support.
How do I add my own items as light sources in Dynamic Lights?
You can add any item ID you want as a shiny item through the settings file, and armor items are supported too. The config syntax accepts IDs, metadata ranges, and string values like tile.cloth.
What light levels does Dynamic Lights support?
It supports multiple light levels: 3, 6, 9, 12, and 15. Enchanted items glow at light level 6 by default, with special cases for Fire Aspect, Riptide, and Channeling at light level 9.
Does Dynamic Lights affect performance?
There is no limit to the number of lights you can create, but they are fairly FPS-costly. You can disable modules to get better FPS.
