Core Mechanics

Leveling System

Both players and mobs have levels. Killing mobs grants experience, which increases the player's level. As players level up, they gain Talent Points and Skill Points.

  • Mob Scaling: Mobs spawn at levels relative to the player's level or the area's level. Higher-level mobs have significantly more health and damage.
  • Experience Formula: XP gain is based on the mob's health and level relative to the player. Farming low-level mobs provides diminishing returns.

Primary Stats

Characters are defined by six core attributes that scale with gear and talents:

Stat Effect
Vitality Increases maximum Health and Health Regeneration.
Willpower Increases Magic Shield and Magic Shield Regeneration.
Wisdom Increases maximum Mana and Mana Regeneration.
Strength Increases Melee Attack damage.
Intelligence Increases Magic/Caster Attack damage.
Dexterity Increases Ranged Attack damage and Dodge Rating.

Passive Talent Tree

The mod features a massive, interconnected talent tree with hundreds of nodes. Players can specialize in different paths to enhance specific playstyles (e.g., Tank, Healer, DPS).

  • Game-Changer Perks: Special nodes like "Blood Mage" (converts mana costs to health) or "Chaos Inoculation" (sets health to 1 but grants massive magic shield) can fundamentally change how a character is played.
  • Points: Players earn 1 Talent Point per level, capped at level 100 by default.

Azuna's Favor (Anti-Mob Farming)

To discourage repetitive mob grinding, the mod implements a "Favor" system: * Gaining Favor: Opening loot chests in the world increases your favor. * Losing Favor: Killing mobs or crafting gear decreases favor. * Penalties: At 0 Favor, players cannot find Uniques, Runes, or high-rarity items, and experience gain is disabled.

Skill & Spell System

The spell system is centered around Skill Gems. Unlike traditional magic mods, spells are items that must be equipped in a dedicated spell inventory.

Skill Gems

There are two types of gems: 1. Active Skill Gems: Grant an active ability (e.g., Fireball, Heal, Totem). Players have 8 active spell slots. 2. Support Gems: Augment active skills (e.g., Multiple Projectiles, Faster Casting, Lifesteal). Players have 12 support slots to link to their active skills.

Spell Categories

  • Elemental Bolts: Fire, Frost, and Lightning projectiles.
  • Heal Spells: Direct heals and area-of-effect restoration for party play.
  • Totem Spells: Stationary entities that cast spells or provide buffs.
  • Song Spells: Persistent auras that buff allies or debuff enemies.
  • Aggro/Taunt Spells: Used by tanks to generate threat and force mobs to attack them.

Mana and Magic Shield

  • Mana: Used to cast spells. Regenerated over time or via food.
  • Magic Shield: A secondary health bar that protects your actual hearts. It regenerates quickly after a short delay of not taking damage.

Mobs & Creatures

The mod enhances vanilla mobs and adds new elemental variants that spawn based on the biome's modifiers.

Elemental Variations

Mobs can spawn with elemental affinities (Fire, Frost, Lightning, Nature, Chaos). These mobs convert a portion of their physical damage into elemental damage and gain resistances.

Special Mob Types

  • Mages: Cast elemental bolts at the player from a distance.
  • Arcane Mobs: Attacks drain the player's mana.
  • Healer Mages: Run to nearby injured mobs and cast healing spells on them.
  • Elite/Boss Mobs: Spawn with multiple affixes (e.g., "Extra Health", "Fast", "Fire Aura") and drop significantly better loot.

Mob Behavior

Mobs that spawn during the day are generally neutral until attacked. However, attacking one will anger nearby mobs of the same type.

Crafting & Stations

Crafting in Age of Exile is level-dependent. You cannot craft high-level gear without first obtaining materials from that level range.

Salvaging

Players can salvage unwanted gear at a Salvage Station to obtain Salvaged Dust. * The tier of dust obtained depends on the level of the item salvaged (e.g., salvaging a level 30 sword gives Tier 3 dust). * Dust is used to craft gear of the corresponding level.

Stations

Block Function
Repair Station Uses materials to restore the durability of Age of Exile gear.
Map Device Consumes maps to open portals to the Dungeon Dimension.
Salvage Station Breaks down gear into crafting components (Dust).
Gem Station Used to manage Skill Gems and Support Gems.

Food Effects

Consuming food provides long-term buffs that scale with the player's level: * Fish: Grants Magic Shield Regeneration. * Meat: Grants Health Regeneration. * Other Foods: Grants Mana Regeneration.
