Understand the two fuel types
Ad Astra uses
Fuel Buckets for standard rockets and
Cryo Fuel Buckets for higher-tier or cryo-based engines. Standard
Fuel is refined from oil, which you obtain by placing an Oil Derrick or pumping from an oil deposit in the world.
Cryo Fuel is a colder, more advanced propellant used by later engines and requires additional processing. You cannot mix them — check which
fuel your engine accepts before filling.
Refine oil into fuel
Pump or collect crude oil, then run it through the mod's refinery or fuel-processing machine. The refinery converts crude oil into usable
Fuel Buckets. Store finished buckets in a chest near your
Launch Pad so refueling is quick. For
Cryo Fuel, feed the appropriate input into the
cryo-fuel machine and collect
Cryo Fuel Buckets.
Refuel and top off
Right-click your assembled rocket to open its
fuel slot and insert a
Fuel Bucket. The rocket's
fuel gauge fills; a full tank is required for interplanetary travel. Remember that landing and taking off again consumes
fuel, so always carry at least one spare
Fuel Bucket per planned trip. If you run dry on another planet, you must refine local resources or send a resupply — plan your round trip before launching.
