Warp Drive Mod — Guide

Getting Started

To begin your journey into the final frontier, you must first construct a basic ship. A functional ship requires three primary components: a Ship Core, a Ship Controller, and a Computer.

Basic Ship Setup

  1. The Ship Core: This is the heart of your vessel. It stores energy and executes the physical "jump" or movement of the ship. It must be placed horizontally.
  2. The Ship Controller: Place this block adjacent to the Ship Core. It defines the "front" of your ship and acts as the interface for your computer.
  3. The Computer: Place an Advanced Computer (ComputerCraft) or an equivalent OpenComputers terminal next to the Ship Controller.
  4. Power Source: Connect a power source (RF or EU) to the Ship Core. The core acts as a massive battery for the ship's systems.

First Flight

Once your core is powered and the computer is placed, access the computer. You will need to: * Name your ship: Register the vessel in the mod's database. * Define Dimensions: Set the range (Front, Back, Left, Right, Up, Down) from the core that defines the ship's physical boundaries. * Take Off: To reach space from a planet, move your ship above Y=255. To land on a planet from space, move below Y=0.

Ship Mechanics & Tiers

Ships are categorized by their Mass (total number of non-air blocks) and Volume (the bounding box size). These stats determine where the ship can travel and how much energy it consumes.

Ship Tiers

Tier Classification Max Mass (Blocks) Capabilities
1 Shuttle < 3,000 Can land on and take off from planets.
2 Corvette 3,000 - 10,000 Requires space-based construction; too heavy for planet landing.
3 Frigate/Capital > 10,000 Capable of engaging Hyperdrive for long-distance travel.

Movement Costs

  • Standard Jump: 10 EU (40 RF) per volume block + 100 EU (400 RF) per block distance.
  • Hyperspace Transition: Requires a flat fee of 10,000,000 EU (40,000,000 RF).
  • Hyperspace Travel: 10x cheaper and 5x faster than normal space travel.

Mass Constraints

Ships with a mass lower than 3,000 blocks are light enough to overcome planetary gravity. Larger ships must be built directly in the Space dimension or at a space station. If a ship exceeds its tier's mass limit, it may fail to jump or consume excessive power.

Dimensions & Exploration

The mod introduces two primary dimensions beyond the Overworld.

Space (Dimension -2)

Space is a dark vacuum with no gravity and no air. It is populated by: * Asteroid Fields: Rich in ores, including rare materials like Iridium and Quartz. * Planetoids: Small spherical bodies that may contain atmospheres or hidden structures. * Gas Clouds: Large nebulae that can be harvested for chemical resources. * Derelict Ships: Abandoned NPC vessels that can be scavenged for high-tier loot and technology.

Hyperspace (Dimension -3)

Hyperspace is a high-speed dimension used for traveling vast distances. Coordinates in Hyperspace are compressed (typically 1:100 compared to Space). * Requirement: Engaging the Hyperdrive requires a ship volume of at least 4,000 blocks. * Visuals: Hyperspace features a distinct skybox and fog, often configurable by server admins.

Combat & Defense

Space is dangerous, and ships must be equipped to defend themselves.

Laser Cannons

Laser Cannons are multiblock weapons consisting of a Laser Camera, Laser, and Laser Mediums. * Modes: Single (precision), Boosted (high power), Multi (multiple targets), and Scatter (area of effect). * Atmospheric Loss: Lasers are less effective inside a planet's atmosphere due to energy dissipation.

Force Fields

Force fields protect ships from lasers and physical projectiles. They require a Force Field Projector and Relays. * Frequencies: By setting your Laser Cannon and Force Field to the same frequency using a Tuning Fork, your own lasers can pass through your shields while blocking enemy fire.

Cloaking

A Cloaking system hides your ship from visual detection and radar. * Setup: Requires one Cloaking Core and exactly 12 Cloaking Coils placed in a specific pattern. * Tiers: Tier 1 leaves a faint shadow; Tier 2 provides total invisibility but consumes massive amounts of energy.

Mining & Utility

Mining Lasers

The Mining Laser is a powerful multiblock structure that acts as a long-range quarry. It scans the area in front of it and teleports blocks directly into connected inventories. It is most effective for stripping asteroids of their ores in space.

Radar

Radar allows you to detect other ships in the Space dimension. * Echo: Every ship produces an "echo" based on its mass. * Isolation: Blocks like Lead or Carbon can be used to build an "Isolation Room" around the ship's core to reduce its radar signature, making it harder for enemies to find you.

Transporters

The Transporter Room allows for the teleportation of players and entities between ships or from a ship to a planet's surface. It requires a Transporter Beacon at the destination for maximum accuracy.

Power Generation

While Warp Drive supports external power mods, it includes its own high-tier generator: the Enantiomorphic Reactor.

Enantiomorphic Reactor

This is an unstable, high-output reactor that generates energy based on "Inertia." * Mechanic: As the reactor runs, it generates more power but also increases in Instability. * Risk: If instability reaches 100%, the reactor will explode with catastrophic force, likely destroying the ship. Players must use computers to constantly balance the reactor's output against its stability.
