Additives and Activators
Before cooking complex meals, players must craft 'Activators' and 'Additives'. These are non-edible components used in crafting recipes.
- Yeast: Crafted using Sugar, Water (Bottle), and a heat source or mushrooms. Used for leavening bread and brewing.
- Baking Powder: Created by combining Salt and Sugar. Used in bakery items.
- Gelatin: Produced by boiling Bones or Leather with Water. Used for jelly and gummy snacks.
- Flour: Obtained by grinding Wheat. It is the base for all bakery items.
- Cornmeal: Obtained by grinding Corn (if available) or as a substitute for wheat flour in specific recipes.
- Cocoa Powder: Ground Cocoa Beans, used for chocolate-based foods.
Culinary Categories
The mod categorizes its hundreds of recipes into logical groups, each with varying hunger and saturation benefits.
Bakery Items
Using Flour, Yeast, and Baking Powder, players can create: * Biscuits & Muffins: High saturation, quick to eat. * Donuts: Sugar-heavy snacks that provide a brief speed boost. * Pie Slices: Vanilla Pumpkin Pies can be sliced into 4 portions.
Sandwiches
Sandwiches are the ultimate mid-game food. They require two Slices of Bread and a filling. * Ham Sandwich: Bread + Cooked Pork + Salt. * Chicken Sandwich: Bread + Cooked Chicken + Greens. * PB&J: Bread + Nut Butter + Jelly (Gelatin + Fruit).
Kebabs
Kebabs are crafted using a Stick and various meats/vegetables. They are efficient because they combine multiple food groups into one item. * Veggie Kebab: Stick + Carrot + Potato + Mushroom. * Meat Kebab: Stick + Beef + Pork + Mutton.
Stuffed Potatoes (Tatoes)
Baked Potatoes can be enhanced with toppings: * Loaded Potato: Baked Potato + Animal Fat + Salt + Green Onion. * Cheesy Potato: Baked Potato + Milk/Cheese.
Junk Food
For players with excess Animal Fat, Junk Food provides high hunger restoration but low saturation. * Potato Chips: Sliced Potatoes fried with Animal Fat. * Popcorn: Corn/Seeds heated with Animal Fat.
Brewing and Moonshine
VFP expands the brewing stand's utility and introduces a new way to mix effects.
Brewing Aids
Many food powders can be used as alternative brewing ingredients: * Spider Eye Powder: A more compact way to brew poison. * Magma Cream Substitute: Created using Slimeballs and Animal Fat.
Moonshine Potion Mixing
Moonshine is a high-strength base that allows players to combine multiple potion effects into a single bottle. 1. Create Moonshine Base: Ferment Sugar and Yeast in a water bottle. 2. Mixing: Combine the Moonshine Base with two different potions in a crafting grid to create a 'Mixed Potion'. 3. Risk: Drinking Moonshine has a chance to apply a brief 'Nausea' effect alongside the beneficial buffs.
Pantry Bulk Storage
To manage the massive influx of food, VFP adds decorative and functional storage blocks.
Crates and Sacks
These blocks act like 'compacted' versions of food. Most can be crafted by filling a 3x3 grid with the same food item.

These blocks can be placed in the world for decoration and broken to retrieve the 9 items back, making them superior to chests for long-term food storage.
Mechanics and Integration
Tough As Nails (TAN) Integration
If the Tough As Nails mod is installed, VFP items are automatically tagged with thirst and temperature values. Juices and soups will restore thirst, while spicy foods (like those using peppers or certain spices) may increase body temperature.
Configuration
The mod's config file (vanillafoodpantry.cfg) allows server owners to:
* Toggle the spawning of Salt Ore.
* Adjust the drop rates of Animal Fat.
* Enable or disable specific 'Junk Food' recipes.
* Modify the saturation and hunger values of all added foods to balance against other mods.
