Optimize Shadows for Your System
Shadow Settings Overview
United Shaders renders semi-realistic shadows that shift with the sun and moon. Shadow quality significantly impacts performance, so adjusting these settings helps balance visuals with frame rate.
Configure Shadow Quality
1. Open Options → Video Settings → Shaders or Shader Options
2. Locate Shadow Quality, Shadow Distance, or Shadow Resolution
3. Adjust settings:
- Lower quality: Softer, blockier shadows; better performance
- Higher quality: Sharper, more detailed shadows; higher performance cost
4. Look for Shadow Distance to control how far shadows render from your position
5. Apply changes and test in different lighting conditions
Performance Tips
- Indoors: Lower shadow quality is less noticeable; prioritize performance
- Outdoors: Higher quality enhances the anime-inspired aesthetic during day and night
- Caves: Moderate quality balances visibility with atmosphere
- Lag: If frame rate drops, reduce shadow distance or quality first
Shadows are most visible during sunrise, sunset, and moonlight. Test your settings during these times to ensure they look good while maintaining smooth gameplay.
