Simple Farming Mod — Guide

Crops and Seeds

The core of the mod consists of numerous new crops. Most seeds are obtained by breaking tall grass in various biomes, similar to how vanilla wheat seeds are found. Once obtained, these seeds can be planted on tilled farmland.

Field Crops

These crops grow through several stages and can be harvested when fully mature.

Fruit Trees

Fruit trees are found naturally in the world and can be cultivated by the player. Unlike standard trees, fruit trees have specialized leaves that grow fruit over time. When the fruit is visible on the leaves, it can be harvested by right-clicking.

Tree Varieties

  • Apple: Naturally occurring (vanilla), but enhanced by mod recipes.
  • Apricot: Found in temperate biomes.
  • Banana: Found in jungle and tropical biomes.
  • Cherry: Found in forests and plains.
  • Mango: Found in warm, tropical biomes.
  • Orange: Found in plains and forests.
  • Peach: Found in temperate biomes.
  • Pear: Found in forests.
  • Plum: Found in various forest biomes.

Cultivation

To grow a fruit tree, players must obtain a sapling. Saplings can be crafted by combining a vanilla oak sapling with the respective fruit. Once planted, the tree will grow to full size, and the leaves will periodically produce fruit without the need to replant.

Berries and Wild Plants

Berries grow on small bushes found throughout the world. These bushes can be harvested by right-clicking, which yields the berries and leaves the bush intact to regrow.

Berry Types

  • Blackberries: Found in forest biomes.
  • Blueberries: Found in cooler forest and mountain biomes.
  • Raspberries: Found in temperate forests.
  • Strawberries: Found in plains and meadows.

Grapes and Trellises

Grapes are unique as they grow on vines. While they can grow on the ground, they are most efficient when grown on a trellis or allowed to hang. Grapes are primarily used for making wine and juices.

Mechanics

Right-Click Harvesting

One of the most significant mechanical additions is the ability to harvest any mature crop by right-clicking it. This will drop the produce and automatically reset the crop to its initial growth stage, removing the need to break and replant seeds manually.

Fermentation Process

Fermentation is a time-based mechanic. Items placed in a Fermenting Barrel will slowly transform. For example: 1. Place Grapes in the barrel. 2. Wait for the progress bar to finish. 3. Retrieve Wine.

Thirst and Nutrition (Compatibility)

While Simple Farming does not add a thirst bar by default, its beverages and high-moisture foods (like cucumbers and melons) are often pre-configured to work with popular survival mods that add thirst or nutrition mechanics.
