Pick the Right Blocks for the Look
Realistic Woods changes the *textures* of vanilla wood, not the blocks themselves. That means every plank, log, and stripped log you already place will pick up grain, knots, and color variation automatically once the pack is active. To get the most out of it, lean into blocks that show off grain: full plank walls, log pillars, and stripped logs used as beams or flooring.
Build with Variation in Mind
Because the pack adds color variation between individual wood types, mixing species in one build reads as intentional rather than messy. Try pairing a darker plank as a floor with a lighter species for walls, and use logs as corner posts to frame the grain. Avoid covering large flat areas with a single plank type if you want the realism to show — break it up with stairs, slabs, and trapdoors, which reuse the same texture at different scales.
Check It in Different Light
Wood grain reads very differently in sunlight versus torchlight. Walk around your build at dawn, noon, and night before you commit to a palette. If a species looks flat in your lighting, swap it for one with more contrast. Since the pack only changes textures, you can freely experiment with any wood type without worrying about recipes or block behavior changing.
