Project Shaders FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I enable Project Shaders after installing it?
Launch Minecraft, go to Options > Video Settings > Shaders, then select Project Shaders from the list and apply. You'll see the changes take effect immediately in your world.
Why do my shadows look too dark or too bright?
Open the shader options menu (usually accessible from Video Settings while the shader is active) and adjust the shadow intensity slider to find your preferred darkness level. Different times of day and biomes will naturally have different shadow depths.
Can I use Project Shaders with my resource pack?
Yes, Project Shaders works alongside resource packs—load both in your launcher and they'll blend together. The shader handles lighting while your resource pack handles textures and models.
How do I make torches and lanterns glow more?
Look for light source or glow settings in the shader options menu and increase the spread or intensity value. You may need to adjust emissive settings depending on your specific shader version.
Is Project Shaders causing my FPS to drop?
Shaders are performance-intensive; try lowering shadow quality or disabling advanced lighting features in the shader options. If performance is still poor, ensure your GPU drivers are up to date and close other applications.
Why do caves look completely black with this shader?
Project Shaders increases shadow depth underground, so bring torches or other light sources to illuminate caves properly. You can also reduce shadow intensity in the shader settings if you prefer brighter underground areas.
Does Project Shaders work in the Nether and End?
Yes, it applies to all dimensions, though the visual effect differs since these areas have unique lighting conditions. The shader will adjust how their ambient light and any placed light sources appear.
Can I adjust how the sky looks during sunrise and sunset?
Open the shader options and look for sky or atmosphere settings where you can tweak color gradients and brightness during different times of day. Changes apply in real-time as the day/night cycle progresses.
What should I do if the shader makes everything look washed out?
Check the brightness and contrast settings in the shader options menu and adjust them down. You may also need to lower the overall light spread value to restore more natural contrast.
Does Project Shaders affect block brightness values or just how they're displayed?
It only changes how lighting is rendered visually—it doesn't alter the actual light levels blocks emit, so redstone contraptions and mob spawning mechanics work normally.
