ProgressiveStages Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I start using ProgressiveStages?
Type /pstages editor in chat to open the in-game progression editor. From there you can create stages, set dependencies between them, and assign items or blocks to lock behind each stage.
Can I lock specific items without locking the entire mod?
Yes. In the editor, you can lock individual items, use item tags to lock groups of similar items, or lock all items from a specific mod at once—whatever fits your progression design.
What happens if a player tries to use a locked item?
Locked items cannot be held in the inventory, used, placed as blocks, or repaired in an anvil. The restriction is enforced server-side, so players cannot bypass it on multiplayer servers.
How do I check my current progress in the world?
Type /stage, /stages, or /ps in chat, or press your assigned keybind to open the progression map screen. This shows which stages you've unlocked and what milestones are still ahead.
Can I create branching paths instead of a linear progression?
Yes. Use the editor to set up multiple stages with different dependencies—players can unlock different branches based on which prerequisites they complete, creating skill trees or secret unlock paths.
Do locked items stay locked on multiplayer servers?
Yes. ProgressiveStages enforces all restrictions server-side, so players cannot bypass progression milestones even in multiplayer. The mod tracks each player's progress separately.
Does ProgressiveStages work with other mods like Quests or JEI?
Yes. The mod is designed to work alongside popular mods like Just Enough Items, KubeJS, FTB Teams, and FTB Quests when they are installed.
Can I make one stage depend on completing another stage first?
Yes. In the editor, you can set dependencies so that a stage only unlocks after players complete its prerequisite stages. This lets you build complex progression chains.
What's the difference between locking items and locking recipes?
Locking an item prevents players from holding or using it at all. Locking a recipe prevents crafting it, but the item may still be obtainable through other means—use whichever fits your progression rules.
Can I edit my progression stages after players have already unlocked some?
Yes. You can edit stages in the editor at any time, but be aware that changes may affect players who have already progressed—test changes carefully on multiplayer servers to avoid breaking existing player progress.
