Mob Talker Mod FAQ

Right-click a supported mob while holding the interaction item the mod uses to open the dialogue interface. If nothing happens, the mob type may not have any dialogue pages loaded yet, so check your pages folder.

Only mobs that have script pages assigned to them will respond, which by default covers several common hostile creatures. You can add support for other mobs by creating or importing pages for them.

Mob Talker is a Java Edition mod and does not run on Bedrock or Pocket Edition. There is no official Bedrock port, so the visual novel dialogue system is only available on Java.

Pocket Edition cannot load Java mods, so Mob Talker will not work there. Any PE download claiming to be Mob Talker is not the real mod.

Pick dialogue choices the mob responds positively to, and keep talking to it over multiple sessions instead of rushing. Affection is tracked per mob, so progress with one creature does not carry over to another.

Affection and story progress are stored per world and per mob, so loading a different save or replacing the mob will start fresh. Removing or renaming the page files tied to that mob can also wipe its progress.

Create a page file for the mob you want and place it in the mod's pages folder, following the format used by the existing pages. The mod reads these files on load, so restart or reload after adding new content.

Check that the page file is in the correct folder, uses the right mob identifier, and has no syntax errors. A single broken line can stop the whole page from loading, so compare it against a working page.

It only works with mobs that have pages written for them, so modded creatures need their own page files before they can talk. Compatibility otherwise depends on whether the other mod changes the same mob behavior.

The dialogue system itself is lightweight, but very large or numerous page files can slow loading. If you notice stuttering, trim unused pages and avoid loading content for mobs you never talk to.
