Compare Normal Text and Raw Keys Side-by-Side
Switch Between Modes to Verify Changes
To understand how a specific key maps to readable text:
1. Note down a translation key while in Keys mode
2. Switch back to your normal language (like English)
3. Navigate to the same location and compare what you see
4. Switch back to Keys mode to confirm you're looking at the right element
Why Compare?
Some keys are not immediately obvious from their names. Comparing side-by-side helps you:
- Confirm you've found the right key before editing
- Understand the game's naming conventions
- Spot keys that apply to multiple similar items
- Verify your resource pack changes are targeting the correct text
Testing Your Understanding
This comparison method is especially useful when working with resource packs or translations. You can make a small change to a specific key, then switch back to normal mode to see if it worked. If the text didn't change, you know you need to find a different key or check your file format.
