Understand Ambient Light Behavior

Lit Vanilla Plus improves how light spreads underground, but caves remain intentionally dim to preserve atmosphere. The shader enhances existing light sources rather than creating artificial brightness.

Use Light Sources Strategically

Place torches, lanterns, or other light blocks to define your mining tunnels and bases. The shader will render these light sources more realistically, creating better shadows and depth perception than vanilla.

Adjust Ambient Occlusion Settings

In the shader menu, find ambient occlusion or cave lighting options. Increasing these slightly brightens shadowed areas without washing out the environment. This helps you see details in dark corners without losing the cave's character.

Consider Your Lighting Setup

For long-term bases, use varied light sources—a mix of torches, glowstone, and lanterns creates more interesting illumination than uniform lighting. The shader's improved lighting engine makes these arrangements look more natural and visually appealing.
