Beyond Realistic Breeds

Better Dogs includes fantastical dog models beyond real-world breeds. These work with the same Name Tag system as standard dogs.

Available Mythical Variants

  • Cerberus: A three-headed dog variant
  • Skeleton: A bone-themed dog model (aliases: Grimm)
  • Wither: A dark, wither-themed dog design

How to Obtain Them

1. Tame a wolf normally using bones

2. Create a Name Tag in an Anvil

3. Rename it to the desired variant name (Cerberus, Skeleton, or Wither)

4. Apply the Name Tag to your tamed wolf

The wolf will transform into the mythical model. These variants are purely cosmetic and function identically to regular dog breeds—they still provide the same companionship and protection benefits.

Display Quality

These detailed mythical models look best with Optifine's Custom Entity Models enabled at higher render distances, allowing you to appreciate the intricate design work.
