How to Become a Vampire

Getting Bitten

Find a Vampire in the world and let it attack you. When a Vampire hits you, you gain the Sanguinare Vampiris effect. Watch your status effect icons — once the effect is active, you have a limited window before it wears off. If it expires before you die from it, you stay human.

Dying to the Infection

To complete the transformation, you must die while Sanguinare Vampiris is still on you. Let mobs or the Vampire kill you. On respawn you become a Vampire. You can confirm the change by checking your GUI — a blood bar replaces part of your hunger display.

After Turning

As a Vampire you burn in sunlight unless you wear a full set of armor or stand in shade, and you no longer eat normal food. Instead you must drink blood. Craft a Blood Bottle or use a Blood Container to store blood, and feed from mobs or from Blood Sieves. Use the Altar of Infusion to spend skill points on vampire abilities. Level up by feeding and by completing vampire actions; each level grants skill points you spend at the Altar of Infusion. If you want to reverse the change, see the curing guide.
