Why it can cost performance
Particle-based precipitation is more expensive than a flat overlay because each raindrop or snowflake is an individual rendered element. In a heavy storm, in a large open area, or on a low-end machine, that adds up. If your framerate dips specifically when it rains or snows, the weather particles are the likely cause.
Steps to bring it back under control
- Lower the Minecraft particle setting one step at a time and watch the storm. This is the single most
effective lever, and it thins the effect rather than removing it. - Reduce your render distance. Fewer loaded chunks means fewer positions where weather particles are being spawned and drawn around you.
- Avoid standing in the open during storms when you do not need to. Sheltering under a roof or in a building cuts the number of particles in your view dramatically.
- If you run shaders, test with them off during rain. Shader weather effects and this mod's particles can compound the cost.
- Check whether another mod is also spawning weather particles. Duplicate weather systems are a common and easily missed cause of storm-time lag.
- If performance is still poor, remember the mod is cosmetic. Disabling it costs you nothing functionally, and you can re-enable it when you upgrade hardware.
