Frequently asked questions

What's the best generator to start with in Mekanism Generators?
The Heat Generator is usually the easiest first step since it runs on lava or burning fuel and needs no complex setup. Pair it with a Geothermal Generator module later to keep it running passively from lava.
How do I actually get power out of a generator into my machines?
Generators output energy through their sides, so attach a Universal Cable or similar Mekanism cable to an output face and run it to your machines or an Energy Cube. Check the generator's side configuration to make sure the correct face is set to output.
Why is my Solar Generator producing almost nothing?
Solar Generators only produce during daytime and are blocked by any block above them, so clear the sky directly overhead. The Advanced Solar Generator produces more and can work in low light, but it still needs an open view of the sky.
How do I make Ethylene for the Gas-Burning Generator?
Crush organic materials like wheat, seeds, or biofuel crops into Bio Fuel, then process that in a Pressurized Reaction Chamber with water to get Ethylene. Feed the Ethylene into the Gas-Burning Generator for a strong early-to-mid game power source.
What do I need to run a Bio-Generator?
The Bio-Generator burns Bio Fuel, which you get by crushing organic materials such as saplings, seeds, or crops. It's a solid early power option if you have a steady supply of plant matter.
How does the Wind Generator work and where should I put it?
The Wind Generator produces power based on its height and the open space around it, so place it high up with no obstructions. Higher altitude and clear surroundings mean more consistent output.
What's the difference between a Fission Reactor and a Fusion Reactor?
Fission Reactors burn Fission Fuel to produce power and heat but can melt down or irradiate the area if mismanaged. Fusion Reactors are much later game, require a Laser and D-T Fuel to ignite, and produce massive power once running.
My Fission Reactor keeps overheating or melting down — what am I doing wrong?
You likely don't have enough coolant flow or your Control Rod Assembly isn't inserted enough to throttle the reaction. Add more coolant, insert the control rods further, and monitor the reactor's temperature and damage readouts before scaling up.
How do I start a Fusion Reactor?
You need to build the Fusion Reactor frame, fill it with Liquid D-T Fuel, and heat it with a Laser aimed through a Laser Focus Matrix until ignition. Once ignited it becomes self-sustaining and outputs enormous power.
Will Mekanism Generators lag my world or conflict with other power mods?
Most generators are lightweight, but large Solar arrays, Fission Reactors, and Fusion Reactors can add tick cost if you build many of them. Mekanism cables and generators generally don't convert to other mods' energy directly, so use an energy converter or Mekanism's own machines to bridge systems.
