Crafting Your First Atlas
To begin charting your world, you first need to craft an
Atlas. The recipe combines a Book with a Compass and several pieces of paper arranged around it. Once crafted, the
Atlas appears in your inventory as a portable book that automatically records the terrain you explore.
Opening and Reading the Map
Hold the
Atlas and use it (right-click by default) to open the map interface. The map fills in as you walk around, revealing biomes, structures, and terrain in a top-down view. You can zoom in and out using the scroll wheel or the on-screen controls, and pan across the map by dragging. The
Atlas remembers everything you have seen, so you can close it and reopen it later without losing progress.
Practical Tips
- Keep the
Atlas in your hotbar or offhand so it updates continuously as you travel. - The map only records areas you have physically visited, so exploration is required to fill it in.
- If you die, the
Atlas stays in your inventory (or drops like any item), so retrieve it to keep your progress. - Use the
Atlas alongside waypoints or banners to mark important locations you want to revisit.
