Question 1

Why isn't JLine working on my server?

Accepted Answer

JLine only works when you start your server with the 'nogui' flag in the launch command. If you're using the GUI server launcher, JLine features won't be available—you must use the nogui option instead.

Question 2

How do I access my command history in the console?

Accepted Answer

Once JLine is installed and your server is running with nogui, use the up and down arrow keys in your console to scroll through previously entered commands. This works just like command history in a terminal.

Question 3

Does auto-complete work for all commands?

Accepted Answer

Auto-complete suggests commands and arguments based on what you've typed; it works for standard Minecraft commands and any commands added by other mods on your server. Press Tab to trigger auto-complete suggestions.

Question 4

Can I use JLine with a GUI server?

Accepted Answer

No, JLine is designed only for nogui servers. There are no plans to add GUI support, so you must run your server in nogui mode to use this mod's features.

Question 5

What does syntax highlighting show me?

Accepted Answer

Syntax highlighting colors different parts of your commands—like command names, arguments, and values—to help you spot mistakes before you press Enter. This makes it easier to catch typos and malformed commands.

Question 6

Is JLine a server-side or client-side mod?

Accepted Answer

JLine is a client-side mod, meaning you install it on the machine running your dedicated server console, not on player clients. Players don't need the mod installed to join your server.

Question 7

Will JLine slow down my server?

Accepted Answer

No, JLine only affects the console interface and has no impact on server performance or tick rate. It's purely a quality-of-life tool for server operators.

Question 8

Can I clear my command history?

Accepted Answer

Command history is typically stored by JLine and persists between server restarts, but you can clear it by deleting JLine's history file (usually located in your server directory or user home folder).

Question 9

Does JLine work with mods that add custom commands?

Accepted Answer

Yes, JLine's auto-complete and syntax highlighting will work with custom commands added by other mods, as long as those commands are properly registered on the server.

Question 10

Why is my console not showing colors for syntax highlighting?

Accepted Answer

Some terminals or console windows don't support colored text; try using a different terminal emulator or enabling color support in your console settings. On Windows, using Windows Terminal instead of Command Prompt often helps.
