Goblin Traders spawn naturally in dark, enclosed spaces underground, similar to where you would expect hostile mobs to appear. They are passive and will not attack you, but they will not follow you either. The trick is finding one before you wander past it in the dark.
Locating a Trader
Bring plenty of torches and explore caves, mineshafts, and any unlit underground area. Because they need low light to spawn, lighting up caves as you go will stop new ones from appearing behind you. Listen for their distinct vocalizations, which carry further than you might expect and are your best early warning that one is nearby. If you would rather skip the search entirely, the
Goblin Trader Spawn Egg lets you place one wherever you are standing.
Making the Trade
Right-click the goblin to open its trade interface. Each goblin offers a small rotating list of offers, and the goods are randomized per goblin, so two traders in the same cave can stock completely different things. You cannot reroll a single goblin's offers by closing and reopening the screen. If nothing appeals, note the location and check back later, or find a different goblin. Keep emeralds and common materials on you so you can act the moment you find a good offer.
