When to Use the Blacklist

The blacklist prevents specific mobs from being optimized by the mod. Use this for mobs that animate poorly when throttled, or for entities that aren't actually GeckoLib mobs but are being affected.

Adding Mobs to the Blacklist

1. Open config/geckolib_animation_optimizer-client.toml

2. Locate the blacklist section

3. Add the mob's registry name to the list

4. Save and reload your world

Difference Between Blacklist and Whitelist

  • Blacklist: Mobs here are never optimized—they always animate at full speed, regardless of distance
  • Whitelist: Only mobs on this list are protected; everything else is optimized normally

Use blacklist sparingly, as it reduces the mod's performance benefits. If many mobs need protection, consider using the whitelist approach instead (which inverts the logic).

Testing Changes

After editing, reload your world and observe the blacklisted mob at various distances. It should animate smoothly without throttling, even when far away.
