Customizing Item Display Names

The /itemname command lets you rename any item in a player's inventory, useful for quest items, magical artifacts, or server lore.

Renaming an Item

1. Hold the item you want to rename in your hand

2. Use: /itemname <new_name>

3. The item's display name updates immediately

Example: /itemname Excalibur renames your held sword to Excalibur.

Adding Colors to Item Names

Use color codes with & to make item names stand out:

  • /itemname &c&lFlaming Sword creates a bold red name
  • /itemname &bMystic Staff creates a cyan name
  • Combine formatting codes: &l (bold), &o (italic), &n (underline)

Clearing a Custom Name

To remove a custom name and revert to the default item name, use: /itemname with no arguments while holding the item.

Practical Uses

Custom item names are perfect for:

  • Marking special quest items
  • Creating unique weapons or tools for roleplay
  • Organizing inventory in creative builds
  • Adding atmosphere to adventure maps

Custom names persist on items even when dropped or moved between inventories.
